Reading this was an unexpected pleasure - the code as submitted was from a vintage source and unmodified by me.
But I see no reason not to merge it, and I've updated the binary with the new source. Sadly the file-size didn't shrink; I guess it was written in 128-byte chunks and so it still comes out at 256 bytes.
