Checking off a major data node causes the client to hang with no response #356

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Start up latest client 0.6.8.3
2.Check cells node (no cells appear)
3.Uncheck cells node

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Client hangs.  No progress bar appears.  Since we are supposed to be 
unloading the cells, this should take no time.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.
