So I was thinking - how would the economy if such an area actually work? Are there single traders, walking from village to village with their backpack full of goods? Are there actual trade caravans? The dialogue in the game suggests both - so how about having trade routes which you can and should protect either by clearing an area of raiders - at least for a limited time? Or, have a trade caravan either leave a settlement for another settlement and you can protect it - or even attack it yourself. Upside would be - you gain resources and money, downside would be - you loose time, so this would be a trade off again.

We are exploring this with our "history" advisor, the Muisca were traders so I think there should be caravans.

I think adding missions to protect trade caravans makes sense but will make more sense in the planned additional "1469" mode (codename), in which you won't have the pressure of the days going by with stronger enemies, but rather will be able to roam more freely making your own Muisca life (similar to Mount and Blade)
