Usually its good to guide the reader through the figures in the text. E.g. after explaining the equation one can say: an exemplary plot is givne in Figure \ref{figurelabel}.
If you use a specific dataset in the figures, it is helpful for the reader to know what that dataset is about. I think it would best be introduced in the main text as well.
