moving from test to production #54

Hi Nils,

I am hoping you can help me.

I am ready to move my test environment to production however when i
moved the dir from the test server to the new server, completed the install
from the copied directories and restored the database, i cannot get into the
new server currently...

everything is identical, users, passwords, encryption key... the only
difference is the host name...

can you help me? I really would prefer to backup and restore, however this
bodes another question. if we start using this in a production environment, the
server crashes... how do we get it back up... i assume our situation will be
similar to what i am experiencing now... which is not good and will render this
unusable until this is addressed.

please let me know what i need to do to resolve this, and provide you with
enough information to help me debug.

SLES11sp1 fully patched, cPassMan 1.82 MySQL Server v5.0.67 SUSE MySQL RPM, PHP
version: 5.3.5.

Thanks

Fitz

Hi Fitz,

Have you changed the url and path in table <prefix>_misc?

What I suggest when you want to install your old cpassman into a new
environment, is to:
1- store your database using export in admin page or through phpmyadmin
2- copy your cpassman directory
3- paste it in your new environment
4- import your database into new environment
5- force cpassman update (http://your_server/cpassman/install/upgrade.php)
That's it.

This is how I'm doing with success

I hope this help

Nils

OK thanks I appreciate your response. BTW we will be testing the ldap
authentication once we have 2 environments. I appreciate all your
hardwork. Do you have a wiki? I can post a cookbook on how to do some
of the tasks that are specific to our environment.

Thanks again,

Fitz

well now this is interesting, i do a fresh install... make a backup of the sql
with fresh install, then try to upgrade after the mysql restore and nothing...
i have tired this in several different ways... nothing....

any thoughts or ideas? i can set up a session for you to look at it with me?
let me know... cause as of right now, not being able to restore a backup of the
environment is a deal breaker.

Hi Fitz,

Very strange.
Yes please contact me by mail in order to plan an "open session" ;-)

I'm available tonight and tomorrow evening.

Have you done as I explain below?

When I write "4- import your database into new environment", have you used
phpmyadmin or similar tool?

yes sir, i followed your instructions precisely, several times and
also with a cpl of variances just for good measure...

I am still concerned about the restore though, i had a similar problem
trying to restore the DB on test after a failed LDAP implementation on
1.8, we were unable to get in after deletion, of the dir, then unzip
and follow install then restore, then upgrade.
