Same result : failed to retrieve data on my google account. Validated my google account, everything is perfect.
As I was suspecting a java problem I reinstalled Java and I'm using the lastest
build.

Don't know if there is any relationship, but when I log in to my google finance
account using IE8 I am getting javascript errors and cannot access any
portfolios. Firefox and Chrome are fine. View Source in the IE8 browser shows
at least one line of javascript missing.

Same error msg for me - java.io.IOException: Failed to retrieve data.
Have installed several updates that Java has pushed out over last week or so on
my Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 machine ... assume those updates are to
address the security holes in Java reported in the media. Also assume those
updates have broken this app :(
I can access my google finance portfolio using IE 9 or Firefox 18.0.2 with no
errors.

As mentionned I also can access my google account.
For those of you who can interpret these lines, I attached today's log from
hleOfxQuotes-log.txt (not working) and a log when it was working (jan 29th).
On today's log, the following 3 first lines are missing. It seems that My
portfolio cannot be found, then positions cannot be retrieved but Google
Portfolio retrieval happens may be empty ??? :
- Found portfolio=My Portfolio (today missing)
- > Retrieving positions ... (today missing)
- OK. Google portfolio. (today missing)
- Google Portfolio retrieval took 1825ms.
Also, I have only one Google Portfolio which is the default name one : "My
Portfolio"

Yes, me too. I get the same error when trying to download my Google portfolio
Does anyone know if it is Java or google?

I have the same java.io.IOException error for many days now.
I am not sure if it is related. I have noticed the OFX file downloaded from
Google does not include the stock current market prices in the OFX file. So I
can't use the OFX file directly from Google for importing into Money.
However, the CSV file download from Google does include the current market
price.
I had an older version of Java when this problem happened. Just updated to the
latest Java. There is no difference. Is there anyone who can help?
Thanks.

I have been using hle-ofx-quotes for a couple of years without any problem.
Recently got the same error "java.io.IOException: Failed to retrieve data" when
attempting to retrieve my portfolio from Google. Worked around this for now by
retrieving quotes using the Yahoo tab instead of the Google tab (but I can't
seem to get any Canadian mutual fund quotes this way).
When I log into Google I can see my portfolio without any problem and
everything looks fine.
I also recently updated my Java so I'm not sure if this may have caused the
problem?

Google as a quote source will no longer work

I have exactly the same experiences & issue. Several years perfect, suddenly
getting the error. I too had upgraded java- to 7u13 and I'm about 95% sure
that's when the problem started. I've gone back to 7u11, but that did NOT fix
the problem.
Can someone smart please look at this & see if this can be fixed or not? I've
got autoit scripts written that use this & google portfolio. I hate to lose
all this but that looks to be the only prospect right now. Thanks.

Thanks smene. Had not known that. Guess they just now got around to shutting
it off. Too bad, but oh well. They're taking down igoogle soon too. I guess
this all makes sense to someone there at google. =(

Sadly, even though Google indicated that it was going to shut down the API in
October 2012, the API continued to work until about Feb 5th 2013. Unfortunately
the other quote sources don't seem to provide the same functionality.

Please give "Yahoo options" tab/quoteSource a try for symbols that the primary
"Yahoo" cannot find.

One work-around for the lost of Google Finance API
. Google Portfolio provides an CSV export
. Provide way to read above CSV file
It will be a bit more cumbersome for user. It will be multiple steps process
1. User to use browser to login to Google Portfolio
2. Save CSV file
3. In hleofxtool import the above CSV file.
4. Then ask money to update
New steps are 1, 2.
If this is useful, let me know and I can look into implementing it.

It would be nice to have the Google Finance API working again, but second best
would be to implement a way to read the CSV export or OFX export from Google
Portfolio. Thanks.
