Improvement request: Smoothing support outlines? #1920

Open jonaskuehling opened 10 years ago

jonaskuehling commented 10 years ago

Hey,

while general support capabilities of Slic3r get more and more awesome (and will ultimately with upcoming pillars support mode), for very curvy and organic models the resulting support footprint is often rather hackly and causes slow moves and a lot of vibration during print. Especially those regions that originate from extending model shapes to receive larger support footprint.

Now, I've configured vibration limit feature which improves a whole lot, but generally I think it would be nicer to have smoother outlines. No idea if there's any existing algorithm for tasks like that..?

;-)

Help me with a screenshot when you happen to find such a case :)

Thank you! Yeah, very ugly. :)

jonaskuehling commented 10 years ago

Oh it was 1.0.0 stable (bin) btw., didn't mention..

@jonaskuehling this still a problem in 1.2.9 or 1.3.0-dev? I see that a referenced issue had been closed.

jonaskuehling commented 8 years ago

@lordoghyphens well I'm not quite sure, but I guess it hasn't changed too much since. Our latest machines are much faster than 2 years ago and can thus deal with it easier, but there are still a lot of "ugly" support regions that do not get merged nicely in order to build a more homogenous support area filled with the configured support pattern evenly..

sry, should have been @lordofhyphens
