  1. Find the nonequilibrium steady state population (in the absence of any stall force)
  2. Add barrier (at position $i$)
  3. Get new steady state population (p^\prime)
  4. Compare p(i) and p^\prime(i)
  5. Calculate the force
  6. Iterate over $i$
