Dear Ivan, Anton It took me a few days to understand the RPC Geometry xml file in CMSSW. Now the first thing I want to fix is the z position of the RPC Endcap in Run-3(at this moment) in CMSSW. I understood from the last meeting[1] that the RPC Endcap in CMSSW is switched between front chamber, back chamber. This was confirmed by checking the z position of the chambers, and I have attached plots of the run3 RPC Endcap on CMSSW. Ignoring the front back for now, the information I need is as follows. z position of

  1. RE-1_R2_CH01(2/01/A or B or C in above RE-1 illustrate),

  2. RE-1_R2_CH02(2/02/A or B or C),

  3. RE-2_R2_CH01,

  4. RE-2_R2_CH02,

  5. RE-3_R2_CH01,

  6. RE-3_R2_CH02,

  7. RE-4_R2_CH01,

  8. RE-4_R2_CH02

Can you give me the z position of the above 8 chambers? (iRPC already has the coordinates in the form of an excel file in the meeting agenda[1])

Best regards, Jongwon Shin

[1] https://indico.cern.ch/event/1399804/ (+) Currently on CMSSW, the RPC Chamber has a different z position only depending on even and odd. If the RPC Geometry within a station is affected by other factors besides even and odd, please let me know

Dear Jongwon,

Why do you need only ring 2 chambers? Don't you think that ring 3 will be also of importance?

Me and Ivan are in vacation these days. Ivan will be back to CERN on May 21st, and the job for extracting the z coordinates for all readout planes is foreseen with priority#1 between 20-30 May. I am convinced by end of > May, you will have the needed coordinates.

Regards, Anton

Dear Anton,

Oh, I missed it. Ring 3 is of course important. Thanks for the confirmation.

I would need the z coordinates of the roll below.

RE-1_R2_CH01(2/01/A or B or C in above RE-1 illustrate), RE-1_R2_CH02(2/02/A or B or C),

RE-1_R3_CH01, RE-1_R3_CH02,

RE-2_R2_CH01, RE-2_R2_CH02,

RE-2_R3_CH01, RE-2_R3_CH02

RE-3_R2_CH01, RE-3_R2_CH02,

RE-3_R3_CH01, RE-3_R3_CH02

RE-4_R2_CH01, RE-4_R2_CH02

RE-4_R3_CH01, RE-4_R3_CH02

Send me the data later and I'll work on it. Have a nice vacation! 🙂

Best regards, Jongwon Shin

Hello All, This are the coordinates for RE+-1 and RE+-2 In few days i will update the table with the rest of the coordinates.

I added Roumyana to this thread since she needs the same information for the Fluka simulation

Dear all,

Thanks to Ivan for providing the "Z"-coordinates of the readout planes in station 1 and 2. Within a week you will receive also for station 3 and 4.

Note that he is providing you not 1, but 3 points per plane, to be able to define planarity, because disks are not in ideal position and you can see that in stations 1 near and far side are off by 30mm.

One more reminder, "on" and "off" in the tables mean "on-yoke" layer and "off-yoke" layer, i.e. the plane closer to the yoke and further from the yoke for any given station.

Note also that the even stations are mirror symmetric to odd stations, thus the on-yoke layer in station one is further from the IP than the 0ff-yoke layer, while for station 2 is the opposite. This, of course, is visible by the z-coordinates.

Regarding, FLUKA coordinates, there the coordinates will be slightly different, but let's finish those for readout/strip plane and then we will concentrate on FLUKA. There it is more valuable the coordinates of the chamber, the material it is made of, thickness of material, average density of material...this is important for isotope production and gamma conversion... We will discuss later...

Regards, Anton

Dear Ivan,

Thank you for the precious work done.

Dear Jongwon,

How much time will it take to update the cmssw geometry? Can we have a working meeting in 10days to see the results and crosscheck that all is ok?

Rehards, Anton

Dear Anton,

I am currently with AEPSHEP, a school in Thailand.

My schedule is until June 28, so I think I can’t make progress in 10 days.

I'll try to update and check in by early July.

And I'll share the results as soon as I have them.

Best regards, Jongwon Shin
