Feature Request : add whitespace setting for panel margins #2800

Add a setting to allow configuration of margins between the panels. Especially between the two editor panels. I think having some "whitespace" will help with establishing demarcation and offer some relaxed feeling. Personally, everything looks cramped in the center, even though it is a large and wide display. (Rough mockup idea attached.)

As a bonus, perhaps allow the vertical whitespace to have a different color to the standard background color.
