Technically the term Linux is a generic name of the family of operating systems that include Debian, Red Hat, Raspberry OS, etc many many more, each of which have their own techniques. As the SVXLink software has been in existence for at least 15 years, which is when I began using it in its early form, I don't believe anyone has changed the text file upon which the greeting.wav is based in the EchoLink Sounds folder. I however have changed the sound file itself for various systems that accept Echolink connections. so when you connect to some of the systems I have built, the greeting is appropriate for the setting. For en_GB and fr_FR language files I have constructed and are available from me, the basic form has been changed. I am in the process of making another appropriate change to the en_GB.

No, that's not technical, that's slang-wise. Debian, Fedora, and the like are Linux distributions, because they use the Linux kernel. However, it seems like the slang is too far out in the world for me to do anything about it. In your case in particular, the program works, and it sounds like it would be a major hassle to fix it just for a technicality's sake.

I suggest changing the recording from "the Linux operating system," to "Linux operating systems." I could even edit the existing file to sound like that's what the announcer said if you would rather not have her record it again.
