Idea: Digital audio on air [sf#28] #83

Reported by nivex on 2013-12-09 18:32 UTC An idea I've been noodling around for awhile might make a good module for svxlink: sending audio over the air in digital form. I noticed the transition to Opus recently. I was thinking it would be possible to encapsulate Opus at 8Kbps or so via a 9600 baud KISS TNC, either inside AX.25 UI headers or perhaps a lighter encapsulation.

Wouldn't that be possible just by using AX.25 networking that is in the Linux kernel? Try to setup KISS interfaces and assign the proper IP addresses, and just use the existing IP interconnect. We are doing radio linking using WiFi on 6cm (Tranzeo, Ubiquiti), and it works without problem, but maybe you need a longer range.
