I have an HTC Incredible, softkeys only, and I try the suggested 
shift+alt+comma with no luck.  I tap "softkey shift" then "double-tap trackpad 
button for alt/esc" then "comma".  This does not work.

Can something like the "trackpad then i" for Tab be done for a Pipe character?
