This installation failure was because Apple has updated its AppleWWDRCA.cer certificate and that the installation package is signed with an old and expired certificate. So, the developers only need to repackage the installer and sign it with the new certificate.
Developers, please do this quickly since we have some mission critical stuff to do. Thanks.

Addendum: I installed the exact same package on Mac OS X 10.7.5 on early May and it worked. Then, I installed the exact same file on early August on another Mac 10.7.5 and it failed. I suspected that it must have something to do with the certificate expiration. The gatekeeper bypass (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290) does not work.
This is bizarre.

Upon running the installer it fails upon the configuration step, after selecting the packages and clicking continue.
I am running OSX 10.8.4 on a Retina MacBook? Pro 13" Early 2013
Updated Smart Card Services v2.0 installers have been posted to the Installers Page. Please download, test and report back.
