Does RegionFOUR support online gameplay on 3DS original cartridge? #8

Greeting all,

I posted this question somewhere else but I think it would be better if it is to appear officially here.

First of all, I am a player of pokemon XY/ORAS and own a JP 3DS and JP version of Pokemon Y and ORAS. I would like to play the Japanese version of XY/ORAS (original cartridge with region lock) on an US 3DS machine (I am thinking to acquire one). After reading the tutorial online, I know probably that the jp cartridge could run on the US machine without problem in case with the help of regionFOUR, ninjhas and SKY3DS card. My major concern is, would regionFOUR allow and enable me to perfectly play XY/ORAS on the US machine (1) online with all other players (whether from JP or US or EU) and (2) communicate with a JP machine side-by-side. One of the reasons I am asking because someone told me that it couldn't and some said that error will occur as follow:-

[http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4345085904](the link here would lead to a chinese website where a user addressed this problem about two years ago) [http://imgsrc.baidu.com/forum/w%3D580/sign=772a904c4d90f60304b09c4f0913b370/f0b0154e251f95ca2c608ecbce177f3e66095274.jpg]()

Please copy and paste the links to your browser if they do not work by clicking it.

Your reply is greatly appreciated.

Best.

RegionFOUR is outdated, please use HANS instead. https://smealum.github.io/3ds/

"online with all other players (whether from JP or US or EU) and" Probably but for this particular game don't know for sure.

"some said that error will occur as follow" https://3dbrew.org/wiki/10.5.0-30#Online_multiplayer_sysupdate_message There's no publicly available bypass for that yet.

Very grateful for your such prompt reply and sorry for opening the issue in an outdated github here.

May I clarify what you just said. First, do you mean that "Yes, online gameplay is probably supported by the region free feature, but there is no guarantee that it would work for the particular (pokemon) game I mentioned"?

Secondly, in the website you cited, it said "_...now returns an error indicating a sysupdate is required when a pre-v10.5 3DS tries to send a request with that URL...Hence, this blocks "everything" requiring friends-login including online-multiplayer where the 3DS has friends-module <v10.5 installed__". Does it mean that if my system is 10.6.x then I could get rid of such error?

Thanks again for your help.

Best,

It's game-specific, though of course you can't play online without latest game updates either. "Does it mean that if my system is 10.6.x then I could get rid of such error?" Yes, of course that means losing current menuhax/etc.

Thank you very much for your help, which is really useful to me when I conduct a bit further search myself.

Though I think I cant find the official github of "HANS" you mentioned, I do find some player's feedback on the compatibility of HANS on the GBAtemp.

Here,[https://gbatemp.net/threads/hans-game-compatibility-thread.400903/], it said that: "Pokémon X/Y/OR/AS - Works [with hans], but no update data detected. Language issues on region change."

I wonder (1) is there a way to get around the problem that "no update data detected"? (If there is no bypass on the US machine and if I already got a JP 3ds machine, could I choose to update the cartridge with it first and then continue to play with the JP game in the US machine?)

(2) what would probably be the language issues on region change?

Game updates don't go in the cartridge. They install to SD. Use FunkyCIA2 to grab a .cia of the update. Or search in that ISO place for 3DS...

Thanks for the correction as I am a newbie in this area.

"Use FunkyCIA2 to grab a .cia of the update."

Some questions with this regard:- (1) How could one get FunkyCIA2 running on the Homebrew Launcher in the latest 3DS firmware? I tried to search it from here [http://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Applications] but I couldn't find it. But on one hand I found it on the gateway related topics and it requires Firmware <= 9.2.

(2) Let say we could get FunkyCIA2 installed, how to install a "legit" .cia update for the retail cartridge? I could find lots of updates (not the whole game) from the internet but I am not sure whether they are legit in the eyes of my retail cartridge.

You don't install it on your 3ds; you run it on your computer. Download the update on your JP console, dump your ticket.db, and use funkycia2 with that to make a .cia of the update. Then you should be able to install it on your US console.
