I do not know about the patents but you can see at https://github.com/numenta/NAB/commit/1d8e6e9de0b62f0f9892530d386f3ba0d5030f1a#diff-b335630551682c19a781afebcf4d07bf978fb1f8ac04c6bf87428ed5106870f5 the changes to the scores and it seems that it was slightly improved by removing the prediction logic.
