Project status update #9

The project is still alive, just hibernating until IPFS is actually ready for use. To be specific, we need the in-browser implementations to be in a state that I can actually target. From https://ipfs.io/blog/2019-10-08-ipfs-browsers-update/ it does look like things are coming along, but that's also been the story for the past 3 years. My thoughts are that it's pointless to continue until something can be released that doesn't require the user to install an extra program, since that's a road block that would guarantee nobody would use it. I very much do want to get this done, but my experience for the past several years has been bouts of "What should I do today.. oh yeah there's smugboard still to do right? That thing is awesome, I wanna get it working!" followed by several hours of trawling through the codebase and current IPFS documentation before coming once again to the disappointing conclusion that IPFS just isn't ready yet.

This project will continue once we have a functional IPFS browser implementation. From what it sounds like, it will most likely be Brave that happens first so if you're wondering when smugboard will resume development, go watch their progress.
