Improvements #3

Refactors the code to use memory-mapped files, with the new helper class memory_mapped_file, and changes a couple other things. Fixes #4 and #5 (we'll see if #5 is fixed after the workflow for Windows runs...)

Linux version untested, otherwise should be ready to merge I think...
