Expand width of left channel column to allow closing specific channels easily #484

Currently, the user can click the 'x' next to channel names on the left column 
to hide. If the channel name is too long, the 'x' is hidden and cannot be 
clicked. Fixing this can allow be more intuitive channel selection.
