Scanner detects a change when text is deleted #81

When a bookmark is darkened I know there are changes to a webpage, I have my settings set at "less than 10 characters are ignored. BUT I continue to go to these pages and lots of them have NO highlited changes on them. Why? I am talking about 100 pages with false readings. Thanks for your help.

There is probably something else changing in the HTML of the webpage. You can check this by:

Look at the difference between the two HTML files (try http://winmerge.org or http://meldmerge.org).

If you can't see any differences, please post the URL of the page.

It appears to me that the new changes are not appearing because they "lines that were "deleted" from old page. So it shows as a Change. If they are deleted........who cares. I just need to see NEW items added to the page not deleted items. You understand?

  • Do the same for the "New Page" view

That makes sense - the scanner triggers if the text content changes by n characters, it doesn't consider whether this was due to a deletion or an addition.

In some cases it is useful to see when text gets deleted - see #34.

Agreed. So is there a way to show ONLY if added items? Otherwise its useless to see if text is deleted from a page.

I'm currently focusing my limited time on evaluating a port to WebExtensions, so this addon will continue to work once Firefox drops support for XUL addons.

But I'm always happy to receive pull requests for this, it would be a useful enhancement.
