Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. A clear and concise description of what the problem is. Ex. I'm always frustrated when [...]

We have an environment that spans a large manufacturing floor, and a decent sized office. Our old asset management method (LanSweeper) allowed us to provide it with an image as a map for each location where the assets can be placed on it. What we are finding is that location descriptions vary by each person and having a virtual map that we could drop a pin on would resolve this issue completely.

Describe the solution you'd like A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.

I would like a way to load an image for each location and drop the assets for that location on a map so their exact location does not rely on inconsistent descriptions. Once the asset is placed on the map and this is saved it would be used by having either a link or a tab under each asset where if clicked it would load that map with the placement of the asset centered and the pin for the asset highlighted. On the other end, the location map could be loaded and viewed from the location itself. With this each pin would have a small flag with the asset name whereby you could click and jump right to the page for that asset.

Describe alternatives you've considered A clear and concise description of any alternative solutions or features you've considered.

We are looking at implementing a basic grid system to lay over our building map so we can track the locations that way, however, it takes time and is somewhat tedious to update.

Additional context Add any other context or screenshots about the feature request here.

At minimum the device name and small icon would be very workable.

I would love that as well... Now building this system with Leafletjs in React app. Getting Assets and their types/coords from Snipeit API and showing it in the Leaflet Map, where I imported a map of our floor.

Being able to map the location of something would be an immense tool. Our building isn't enormous, but each department has their own way of referring to areas and spaces that can be confusing, especially for new staff. I had looked at LanSweeper when evaluating endpoint management systems, but as much as I really liked the mapping feature, the rest of it just wasn't what we needed.

I second this request. Also support a large manufacturing facility, that also went from Lansweeper to SnipeIT and would find it convenient to have a map showing the physical locations.

This would be of immense value

Maybe something similar to Fortinet WiFi maps, which user can upload floor plan image, and pull the unlocated assets to its location on the map. https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortiap/7.4.2/fortiwifi-and-fortiap-configuration-guide/930893/wifi-maps

But there is one problem if just pulling the unlocated assets to the location. Most of the time, there are multiple assets in single location (like single office desk might consist of CPU, Monitor, Printer etc.). I think it can be like this: Adding child option for location, and each child option assign with users and assets, then user can pull the child option to the floor plan. For example:

User just pull Table X to the floor plan image, and it will show a icon (maybe customizable icon?) with some info like username and 1 or 2 asset name

Yes, this would be so immensely helpful! Lansweeper also has a similar feature: https://www.lansweeper.com/product/features/it-network-inventory/asset-location-tracking/
