Feature Request for requestable assets date requested field #9435

Open RyanSawyer6003 opened 3 years ago

RyanSawyer6003 commented 3 years ago

Expected Behavior (or desired behavior if a feature request)

Feature Request: Add field to asset request process for date requested. We have assets that are shared among several classrooms and need to be requested in advance, it would be nice for users to have the ability to see asset availability when requesting assets as well as prevent users from requesting assets on days when none are available.

Actual Behavior

Without this feature hearts are broken, teachers weap, and I develop migraines ;)

How would that be different than what we already have?

That is the date the request was submitted, what I'm proposing would be more like an expected checkout date. We have device carts for our chromebooks and tablets here at our k-12 school and it would be nice if our staff could submit requests for these carts with the date range they are planning to use them. I am aware that this would likely require some major changes to the requestable assets feature so obviously if I'm the only one who would find this useful it's not worth the development time.

I totally agree with you. I am in the same position with teachers wanting to request Chromebook carts. We share Chromebook carts with classrooms. We absolutely need a way for teachers to select a date for when they want to use it and when they are planning to return them. We also have sub laptops for teachers to request. Our big problem is that when teachers make a request - I have NO IDEA when they want the laptop. I either have to call them or bring the laptop to them and ask them when they want the laptop and when they plan to return in it. Unfortunately, I am looking for another open-source reservation system until SNIP-IT comes up with a feature release.

We are actually 1:1 now so this isn't an issue for us. We also switched to IncidentIQ because it combines asset management and helpdesk tickets into one system. Still love Snipe-IT, just had the chance to go to an integrated and managed system designed around the weird world of k-12 edu workflows lol.
