I have been looking at this and it only happens (cpu usage of 10%) with some of the editor's color schemas. The classic and tango schema.

I can confirm this issue. Gedit 3.1.18 on Fedora 23, cpu consumption >40% here. Other gtk-themes are fine.
Same here on Arch with Gnome 3.18.2 Just clicking on the colour schemes in gedit preferences makes a difference. As soon as classic or tango are activated CPU usage rockets and the fan starts spinning faster.
If I open gedit with paper theme configured it uses all the time the cpu at 10%. If I swith to adwaita it doesn't. I don't need to restart gedit to notice that.
Gedit 3.18.1 in debian testing. Clean configuration. How can I debug and look why is taking soo much CPU?
Thanks in advance!
