Icon cache generation failed #254

While updating via apt-get update:

And while doing that, the whole system (elementary OS Freya) freezes. Don't know if it's somehow connected to #228

I don't know what's going on with this.

I wonder if this somehow is a bug on elementrary OS side. I'll probably be moving to eOS Isis beta soon, so I'll be able to tell if it's also affected.

elementary freya is, for all intents and purposes, ubuntu 14.04. The related bug #228 seems to be limited to 14.04 as well.

FYI - I know its not really helpful, but there's no such problem with Numix Icon Theme:

Preparing to unpack .../numix-icon-theme_0.3+808~201606182031~ubuntu14.04.1_all.deb ...

gtk-update-icon-cache: Cache file created successfully.

I have no idea how icon theme debs wok, but I'll try to look for differences between Paper and Numix config files.

The problem seems to be with gtk-update-icon-cache and limited to ubuntu 14.04. My guess is it's to do with the sheer number of icons in Paper, but the same bug does not affect Moka.

Hi guys, I just found this issue and reported something similar in #343 , it happens too in a Debian Wheezy

Can you guys (affected ones) check this command?

du -hs /usr/share/icons/*/.icon-theme.cache

You should see a gigantic cache file, only for the Paper theme (other themes don't show any cache file here)

Hi all,

Have the same issue on ALT Linux.

ls -lh /usr/share/icons/Paper/.icon-theme.cache -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2,1G окт 18 15:00 /usr/share/icons/Paper/.icon-theme.cache

And then it dies:

Gtk:ERROR:updateiconcache.c:1121:write_bucket: assertion failed: (*offset == ftell (cache))
