From a meeting with UH (either credit or co-author):

• The mixing of WW and CDW produces the modified warm deep water
• The depth of the halocline is deeper in the margin class that sits on the rim of the gyre
• Q: if you increase the classes to fives, do these two classes separate?
• The Polar Front is the maximum extent of the winter water. There's no temperature inversion north of this
• In the T-S mixing diagram, the winter water appears to have freshened
• The ventilated class may represent the edges of the gyre, where the isopycnals dome down
• The upwelling/downwelling figure seems to be consistent with this, with downwelling all around the rim of the gyre
