sofmeright / HWiNFO_Refresh

HWiNFO Refresh is a very simple script with the purpose of terminating and relaunching HWiNFO before the 12 hour timer is exhausted for free users. This is done so HWiNFO can be used for tools like Rainmeeter without having to manually relaunch to retain Shared Memory Support in versions past 6.42.

Violates HWiNFO License Terms #1

This violates HWiNFO License Terms, especially: "Tampering with features limited in the unlicensed version (e.g. Shared Memory Limit), or automation of actions that would circumvent such limits is strictly prohibited."

I did not modify your code in any way, I simply terminated your executable then reinitialized it every 11hrs + some minutes which results in the Shared Memory Limit remaining active infinitely as a mere side effect. This action is undoubtedly legal.

I still however did remove the links to the scripts and the exe out of respect to the fact that you are the software developer and I respect that. I want to be a developer too tho I am honestly discouraged even trying to find a decent career path. I do pity your likely far more heightened success than mine I may have infringed upon enough to tear this repo down at your beck and call. But I do really want to ask: "Hey man if I pay $125 for a lifetime license is that truly a perpetual license that will cover any 5 devices I own no matter how many times I rebuild my Windows System Disk etc?!"

I use HWiNFO simply for these features https://www.deviantart.com/pul53dr1v3r/art/Rainformer-3-1-HWiNFO-Edition-Rainmeter-789616481 https://www.deviantart.com/pul53dr1v3r/art/Rainformer-3-2-AIDA64-Edition-Rainmeter-444287665 With the time it took me to do a different project I can probably find an alternative way. But I wish we could come to some kind of agreement where something might be permissible for this casual use case 2 systems non commercial use. No over network monitoring. Just the data being output to the desktop skin. I think this is pretty reasonable use case and I think you might consider being more lenient or engaging in some sort of marketing strategy to be more appealing in this case. Or at least be very firm that the lifetime license is no BS we always will be able to have the 5 systems and can install and uninstall at will and be offline or online as often as we want... I at least beg if I am in any position for you to hear me plead a case. Maybe even if you could put an toast notification whenever the computer idles that says you should buy HWiNFO so they see it when they become active again, I could even resubmit an altered script in the meantime with a licensing nag. I doubt you would be receptive of it but I can't help but try to see if you have any interest in hearing me out. The whole point of being able to use a service like this is to be able to tell if your system is overheating at a glance. Having to pay to enable that feature after 12 hours means basically kick rocks or use something different. I would like to see you have a business model that is more inclusive of everyone and maybe has another tier that these people can fit into. But that is not up to me.

Ultimately I will not engage in any behavior that uses your code in a way that you disagree with, even if it is legal. But I am curious as to what the challenge is to create similar functionality as to what your solution provides as a open source project because I want for the Desktop experience to not be limited by finances. Its taken a long time to even be able to afford life for so many people. I am a FOSS fanatic and a definite bias there, I plan to contribute to projects more after I finish building my dev environment out, but I will say I have lifetime licenses for FL Studio, VoiceMeeter, Plex, Launchbox, and quite a few others. I regret the Voicemeeter licenses cause they lock to HW combo. I am more likely to want to pay when I feel I dont have to pay and that my purchase actually is actually tangible in some way that is 100% persistent. I am a lazy person I would much rather use what already works and is working great. I really hope that I can find an easy solution to this where you can approve of it where I don't have to write something that monitors my hardware and puts it on a fancy UI from scratch and doesnt cost more than $125 for my entire life, which is also more than Starfield or Cyberpunk or any AAA game at release + DLC also I think it is about as much as a Windows License itself! Its a lot of money and I doubt dev costs anywhere near as much as a AAA PC title, tho I do respect your mad skills I think its a lot of money to ask a casual user and think you could look the other way and allow us to do this or something new that you disclose with use soon to tide us over while we are saving up the $125.

Anyways thanks for developing HWiNFO and thanks for your time. Sorry if my script made you lose any sleep! Only good intentions coming your way! Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏🏽
