It's probably easier to check what I'm proposing in the shape of a Pull Request, so here it is accompanying the issue: https://github.com/softbankrobotics-research/sbre_robot_ros_gentoo_prefix/issues/4

Here I created a POC of building your image from my maintained images and also an example Azure Pipelines config that can be run to create binary releases for ease of use of your users. (And saving them around 5-20h of compiling... if everything goes well, ofc).
