I'll buy that. It's got me thinking what other files cargo publish slurps up that equally of no value... I'm wondering why keeping them is a default rather than explicit exclusion when they are so common. May also be worth reaching out to the cargo team to create a default exclusion list
It is pretty pointless to distribute those files on crates.io and each distribution (like Debian or Fedora) would have to explicitly exclude those files, so it is much better to do it in upstream.
