The interesting components of GrimoireLabs are indeed Perceval for gathering data and Arthur for running jobs. This would be a more sophisticated tool for getting commits and issue data. However, those are quite easy to get using pyGithub as well, so I don't really see added value for this one-time analysis. These tools are definitely more useful for long-term observation. They also don't provide us with the evolution of popularity markers that we are interested in (they just query the counts every five minutes if you let them), or the more complicated evolution of the README.
Augur might be a bit overkill, but components of GrimoireLabs might make our lives easier. Links in the wiki.
