Diversity and representation #5

Open leouieda opened 5 years ago

leouieda commented 5 years ago

While the conversation here is really energetic and inspiring, I have the feeling that we might be missing the point of view of under-represented groups. Particularly as we dive into potentially dangerous territory, like the review process (#4), in which some groups are at high risk of harassment and implicit biases.

Before we get too far along, it would be great to increase the diversity of people actively involved and commenting in these threads.

Please spread the word to people you think might be interested and encourage them to comment here and elsewhere in the repo.

While Slack activity initially has been really viral, and lots signed up to the channel, it sort of dried out pretty quickly I have the impression. Here on GitHub it is mainly you (@leouieda), @filippo82, and @JesperDramsch active. I assume many are sort of interested, but also aware that it will be a lot of work (time). If the project should move forward I assume one would have to gather a core team that is willing to push thing, e.g. draft out some ideas, do some brainstorming, gather information, and come up with questionnaires and similar to make people participate in the shape-process. Just an idea.

That's a very good point @prisae. I noticed the same but it was expected. It's tough to commit to these things and it's ok for people to phase in and out as life gets busy.

We should keep on the discussion and hope that some more people will get involved as we move forward with this. It might be easier once we actually have something going.
