The Soilwise project aims to develop an open access knowledge and data repository to safeguard soils. This repo is a placeholder to steer the functional requirements of the system.

UC5/US1 Find and access soil data on forest soils #13
I want to find the best soil data available (and reusable with a at most a CC-by license (not NC or SA)) in the area of interest
So our envisioned Decision Support System (DSS) providing a list of forest transformation scenarios for a Stand, uses the best soil data available
Background
The Decision Support System is a software application that provides a list of forest transformation scenarios by automatically retrieving and processing input data (climate, soil, tree species and vitality) from a distributed data infrastructure/repository based on user input (Stand). The DSS itself will not currently present any soil-related information to the user. However, the soil data is used to carry out simulations.
Stands are expected to be plots of land, typically in the 1-10ha range, where the current forest management parameters are homogeneous. The Stand data contain geometry, tree species, tree age classes, tree count, tree height, timber volume. This will be given by the user as well as retrieved from other sources of the forestry data space.
Relevant data
Datasets on Soil type (texture)
Datasets on Soil thickness (excl. coarse skeleton)
Datasets on Indicator of nutrient availability
Datasets on Plant-available nitrogen in kg/ha*yr
SoilWise to return optimal datasets for requested parameters to the DSS in a compatible data format along with a timestamp
Acceptance criteria
[ ] The research required to find optimal data, or if missing a zero conclusion should be 25% more efficient
