Wallet found? #2

Open studiocis opened 1 month ago

Yesterday the software closed on its own and I couldn't see whether it had found a private key or not, so I said to myself "I wonder if there is a log file in the directory". I actually found a new file called “found.txt” in the program directory, containing text with the following structure (I omitted to insert the original strings):

[*] FOUND Wallet With Tx :: 64AlphanumericCharacters:34AlphanumericCharacters:34AlphanumericCharacters

Has the software really found a legitimate wallet?

I tried checking all 3 strings separated by “:” on both https://casasciustracker.com/?sort=6&desc and https://casascius.uberbills.com/ , but none of the three strings were found

PS: Obviously, if the wallet is recovered and contains something, you deserve a nice donation!

some problem

studiocis commented 1 month ago

I solved it, here's the procedure:

1) Download and install the Electrum wallet https://electrum.org/#download

2) Open Electrum wallet and select "File" > "New/Restore".

3) Give a name to your wallet and click "Next".

4) Select "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys" and click "Next".

5) In the window that opens, enter the private key found by Minikey-v5 and click on "Next". Follow the next steps to complete the wallet setup. Once completed, you should see the balance associated with your private key.

NOTE: From the test I did, it appears that the Electrum wallet easily accepts any of the following keys found by Minikey -v5: • The first with 64 characters • The second with 34 characters • The third with 34 characters • The second and third together, separated by a space instead of “:”

NOTE 2: The wallet I found had been charged with 0.054 BTC in 2013, but unfortunately it had already been emptied a month after.

I hope you have better luck!
