Isn't this reliant on a patch to GTK?
For GTK3 - no, AFAIK, it can be done even without indicators. For GTK2 - yes, if it is done via DbusMenu. But if you will use old GlobalMenu or new TopMenu implementation - it will work without patch.
But I think that simple GTK3-only Global Menu is enough.
eew. No global menus, they are the worst design feature known to man.
Closing as I personally have no interest in implementing this. However I'm happy to accept patches to add an optional global menubar applet.
Can we reopen this one? Not a single Linux desktop implement a global menu properly by default. Having this would be a major plus for people that use MacOS beside Linux.
Not everybody like global menu, and 15 years ago I didn't like them neither. Yet their is very good arguments about why they are good: https://medium.com/@probonopd/make-it-simple-linux-desktop-usability-part-1-5fa0fb369b42
In my opinion, they are especially suitable on laptop and small screen. On super big screen it's perhaps not ideal: we need an option.
No. I'm not re-opening this, I have no plans on supporting it. I'm leaving it to Budgie applet developers to implement it outside of core.
Please will you add a global menus option?
The space saving global menus are the only reason I have yet to fully abandon Unity for Budgie or Pantheon.
Thanks for your time.
