Just a random thought I had. Given the desire to split off packages to -docs or -demos where they are quite large, it would be user friendly if users were aware the documentation exists and is available (and an easy way to install via Software Center).
Think of gimp...you open the gimp page in the software center and since the gimp-docs package exists, it will indicate that extra docs are available and could provide a tick box (or other mechanism) to easily install them together if desired (maybe give an indication of their size too). Could also set a global option to default install them (where you could still untick before clicking install if defaulting to installing docs by default, no-one wants texlive documentation xD).
This would mean ensuring patterns (or separate packages) are consistent to maximise availability in the Software Center and make it a bit more user friendly to pull them out of more packages where it makes sense if desired. If it were to become more common, could provide a search i.e. you're missing documentation for these packages you have installed. There are currently 240 -docs packages
