I would say: -No need for mute group for instant triggering because this is meant to be used with short (percussive or speech) samples. -No need for start stop for now because you can mute the track afterward. -The best would be if the user can decide what happen while triggering a sample twice: (polyphonic or monophonic)

consider clips like a reverse cymbal - they are not the typical patterns you want to repeat over and over. as opposed to the latter -you only want to play them back once -possibly instant playback, independent from the beat/frames
Instant-triggered clips should probably not have a mute group?!
