System Information

Issue Description

Mod Organizer 2 will install, as far i can see, but wont launch after install.

What i have tried:

This was fixed already in STL-git. Read the changelog and search for previously closed issues, and do a bit of googling to see that v2.5.0 doesn't work under Wine because it's missing the relevant patch.

I'm sorry but this is at least the fourth time this has come up. Check for closed issues before filing a bug report at least. The issue template even tells you to do this.

And also in future, for any project, please do not just paste the log into the issue. Attach a log file, again like the issue template tells you to.

Duplicate of #973, and #974, #976, #980, and likely even #982 which I suspect is a lingering previous prefix.

Mod Organizer 2.5.0 is now released, as such the fix from before that prevented pre-release versions from installing doesn't work and STL installs MO2 2.5.0. I think this issue refers to that.

I decided not to open yet another issue on that, but I think STL should download fixed 2.4.4 version for now.

That is unfortunate, but yeah, I'll probably fix STL to MO2 2.4.4. I want to add an option like we have for the soon-to-be-defunct Vortex Mod Manager where a user can select a version and toggle it. The default will be 2.4.4 in that case.

Fwiw though a user can always build Proton-tkg with the Wine patch. STL won't stop you there.

It's also good that you didn't open another issue because this isn't an STL bug, this is an issue with MO2 2.5.0 under Wine :-)

Also, this issue predates MO2 2.5.0's release, so it is not related to MO2 v2.5.0 being released (this issue was opened a day prior it seems).

Hardcoded MO2 to only download v2.4.4 in 3dc3f301816b287ba36266df9c1c106f0c87147f.

The Wine patch required to fix this (https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/3931) has been merged in and is available in Wine 8.21. Proton-tkg likely already has this fix and could be used in the meantime if a user updates to ModOrganizer 2 v2.5.0.

It should also be noted that MO2 v2.5.0 has a huge amount of breaking changes, seemingly all for good reason but it is something to note. I'll document this and the MO2 version fixing on the wiki, but for anyone who comes across this, you're probably best either sticking with your existing v2.4.4 install, or completely removing the MO2 prefix and re-installing. You will lose your mods in all likelihood and if you have a large mod setup across multiple games, you can follow the MO2 migration advice. Don't ask for help with that here, though, this isn't a mod support forum. The files you're looking for are in the MO2 prefix, at ~/.config/steamtinkerlaunch/mo2/compatdata/pfx (path is different on Flatpak).

Once either GE-Proton or Valve Proton has this patch (i.e. backported or rebased onto Wine 8.21 or newer), either comment here or open a new issue, and 3dc3f301816b287ba36266df9c1c106f0c87147f can be reverted.
