thanks for the support! The current *.pot is quite outdated as i haven't updated it in my fork. I also haven't tested translating wpkg-gp at all. Have you tried this yet in the official releases?

update: Ok so i played arround with it a bit and atleast for german special characters it was a bit hard to get it working correctly without reworking the message encoding and decoding in wpkg-gp completely.

I had to edit the po file (after doing the translation) manually and change the file encoding to OEM 850 (my windows default encoding) (used notepad++) and then also change the po files HEADER to reflect this:

"Content-Type: text/plain; charset=850\n"

After this i generated the mo katalog (even tho poedit didn't display the special characters at all) and with this it wpkg-gp finally created the correct output in WPKG-GP Client/PipeClient, but i haven't checked what the gpe extension does yet.

update2: Ok tested it now on bootup and it doesnt work there, all special characters are replace with strange ?-Icons. I noticed this before when i used package names including german umlaute.

But i can't say if it will work with special spanish characters, easy way to try is to create a dummy package with those in the name and see how it will be displayed.

For now i would recommend to only use ASCII characters or stick with default english output.

I have not tried in official releases.

How can i test this? need to create folder es\LC_MESSAGES under locale? what is the name of the .mo file?

exactly and the filename has to be "wpkg-gp.mo". Your upload should work with the latest official release but if you want to try it with my modification i have added and updated template to the repository.

Hi

I have tested the translation with the latest template, it work! During Windows bootup all messages are displayed in Spanish, non ASCII characters too.

Attached are the wpkg-gp log file, if is useful for you and the new translation files

Great work Nils.

Great to see it worked for you, but it seems you have forgotten to attach the translation. hmm i will try again and see if i can get german umlaute working.

Is the it working with my client and the default pipe client as well? if yes i will add it definatly to my next release.

i have more testing with special spanish characters in translation file and packages name. wpkg-gp bootup messages are displayed correctly, packages with special charaters in their name are displayed with strange ?-icons

wpkg-client update window. messages with special characters are displayed with other caracters but pakages names are displayed correctly.

I hope this help you.

Thanks for more testing, this really helps. so it seems the gpe extension wants utf8 encoded strings, i thought i had tried this and had problems (with german umlaute) but will try this again. The text that comes out of the wpkg output (package names) are not encoded to utf8 but the default windows shell encoding as far as i can tell and the client (atm) knows how to decode those and thats why they show up fine, but this decoding method doesnt work for the wpkg-gp messages.

So i guess i have to put a bit more work into this and add decoding of the wpkg text into wpkg-gp so i end up with messages that are encoded in only one charset.

I guess the best would be to encode everything in utf8 internally (or escaped utf8 if there are problems with the pipe communication). then i only had to change the encoding for shell output (WpkgPipeClient).

i hope i can test this a bit more this week (really have to figure out the gpe encoding). Im on holiday next week so this will take some time. but i guess i will release the current version of the client and wpkg-gp before that.

Okay i can confirm that the the translation in UTF-8 works fine at bootup with german umlaute as well. Now i only have to decode the messages from wpkg and encode them again in UTF8 for correct display at bootup and also add the correct decoding to the pipeclient as well as wpkg-gp client.

New version of wpkg-gp is uploaded, but i didn't have time to to look at the installer script yet to automatically include all available translations.

This release should now display all messages and package names correctly (bootup, pipeclient, wpkg-gp client), i had some problems with special characters in package names when no translation was supplied but i think i fixed those as well. But if you have time you could try this as well.

I also uploaded a new version of the client that works with the new updated wpkg-gp version.

i have tested latest version of wpkg-gp and wpkg-gp-client with the updated Spanish translations, all messages and package names are displayed correctly.
