Well, first of all, use the latest release, 0.9.3.2. What's in the repo is pretty broken right now. You need to have PHP 5.3 or earlier to run it, because the database driver it uses was removed in 5.4. That's a problem I'm in the middle of resolving, hence the broken code in the repo.
As for install instructions, extract the files into a directory on your web server and navigate there in your browser. The installer will appear and guide you through the setup process.
