Side-by-side editor: preview not next to editor #369

Installed Version: 2.3.0 Environment: Tampermonkey

Current Behaviour

When enabling SBS, the preview area ends up at the bottom of the editor:

SOX Errors logged to the browser console -- F12 (if available)

There were no SOX Errors logged.

Steps to reproduce

I've only just installed SOX, and when I encountered this error, I disabled all other tampermonkey scripts for SO, disabled SOUP and disabled all features in SOX except for the side-by-side editor.

To reproduce, go to an existing post, start editing and click the SBS button on the toolbar.

I am using Firefox 62.0.3 (64-bit) on macOs High Sierra (10.13.6), with no further extensions or scripts.

Just to confirm: this also affects Chrome (69.0.3497.100).

@mjpieters I can't reproduce it, so just wanted to check if this happens on all types of posts? (e.g ask question pages/new answer boxes/inline edit boxes)

Also, do you use zoom?

I'm not using zoom, no, this is at a standard 100%.

I'm not shown the SBS option on new answers or on the 'ask a question' page, only on existing answers.

@mjpieters That's weird :/ Please could you click 'enable debugging' in the SOX dialog and then refresh the question page, press F12 to show the console, and paste the contents here?

Could you also show if there's a change in the console after you click 'edit' under the question/an answer?

This is all in Chrome, with just the SOX script and only SBS enabled. In the Chrome JS console, I enabled the verbose level.

I noticed that the answer below the current post flows, in a single column, next to the edit box; starting from this self-answer, the next answer on the page appears next to the editor when I enable the side-by-side mode:

If the next answer is deleted then the deleted-post background jumps along; using this self-answer as the starting point, there are several deleted posts on the same page (requires 10k+ rep to see them), but when I enable SBS I see:

(This post is short enough to show the positioning of the preview pane quite well.

Exiting the editor leaves the page broken:

All this is reproducible in Firefox too.

I am a community moderator, perhaps that's a crucial difference and the DOM is not what you expect it to be?

@mjpieters Thanks for the logs! The new screenshots you posted seem like it's the issue from #363.

Could you try installing the latest dev version 2.3.9 to see if it's fixed, as it should have been fixed in 2.3.6 hopefully!
