Metadata: Form questions #27

I am filling out the metadata sheets for my data layers and I have a few questions:

  1. What is meant by "dependence" under the "Delivery" section and "Reception" sections?
  2. What is the difference between the "Delivery" and "Reception" sections?
  3. What is needed in the "Observation section"?
  4. What filename format should I use when saving each metadata sheet?
  5. "Rights" should include the reference of the original data source, correct?
  6. What is meant by "Method"?
  7. What is meant by "Location"? Does this refer to the file path or the actual geographic location of the given data layer? If the latter, what do we do in the case of a layer that has no specific geographic location (e.g. a data table)?
  8. If the data layer has not specific geographic location (e.g. a data table or a pdf file), do we simply indicate N/A (i.e. Not Applicable) for "projection", "datum", "resolution" and the fields for "Extreme geographic coordinates"?
  9. What is meant by "Temporary coverage"?
  10. What should be indicated in the "XXXX" of "University Register of Intellectual Property with Certificate Number XXXX"?
  11. What is meant by "official quote"?

Also, I am submitting a a large number of data files downloaded from the same source. This includes all 1,051 climate dataset files from an online climate dataset source. There is one file per grid box within a larger gridded area over the Valley of Mexico. These files have the same name format, data types, and file format. I assume this would take one metadata form for all of the given data files and I have the following questions:

  1. Where in this form do I indicate all of the file names? Do I just specify the generic name (i.e. LivnehMetForcings_lat#_lon#.ncdf, where the first and second # include the latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates of the given file)?
  2. How would I go about filling in the extreme geographic coordinates, given that each file corresponds to different locations? Since each file is one grid location within a large gridded area, do I simply specify the extreme geographic coordinates of that larger gridded area?
  3. What filename format should I use when saving in this case?
  4. Is there anything else I should keep in mind when filling out the data form for this case?

@kwhitney727

  1. Each metadata should be named as the geographic layer, and it should be an excel format file.
  2. Yes, rights should include the reference of the original data source
  3. In Notes, you describe something relevant, only if necessary. "Description", is an abstract of what the layer means "Method", is all you did to get to that result
  4. The location is where the data correspond in a geographic area, even if it is a data table. for example: Mexico City, Metropolitan Area, Mexico Valley, etc.
  5. We need to know in which projection and datum we are receiving the geographic data
  6. Temporal, is the period of time the data set contains, for example: data are from 2007 to 2014, March to October 2016
  7. University Register of Intellectual Property with Certificate Number XXXX, please don´t put anything

For the climate dataset files, it is ok with one file and generic name
