Upgrade to GMF 2.2 has reduced editor performance #61

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create a new diagram
2. Create a new model element

Creating new model elements or edges seem to stall the editor. A
debug/profiling session should work out where it is spending some of its
time, and see if it is custom code.

Profiling the application through some standard routines (opening a diagram, 
creating
shortcuts) doesn't seem to indicate any major performance bottlenecks.
