super basic overview introducing basic concepts and acting as a launching point to go down the rabbit hole.

instead of "For Postcapitalist communities" > "For web 3 communities" fits better

"Contributions in the graph earn cred if they are **connected to other important contributions"

@benoxmo Interesting thought there! Because from a technology point of view, we're currently not that web 3 ready yet. GitHub plugin, Discourse plugin, Discord plugin. Other than moving tokens on-chain at some point, we're pretty web 2 in our tech stack so-far.

So I wonder if you're thinking about web 3 as a movement rather than a tech stack, which SourceCred belongs to?

benoxmo commented 4 years ago

yes @Beanow it's more about the movement and the greater ability for communities to get value from contributions.

Although SourcreCred is still web 2 (and could possibly remained?), I would say there is a lot of web 3 vibes:

  1. the project will have interaction with a ledger at some point (cred, grain : flowing & management)
  2. web3 has a thing around ledger&value that makes other type of coordination possible as long as you have something to track your input/output
  3. web3 communities are techy and a good match for early adopters

and some stuff I can't put a finger on that is related to DAOs, ownership of your contribution....

I definitely think of SourceCred as a part of the web3 movement. It so happens that it depends on a lot of web2 component--but that's true of web3 in general IMO (see usage of twitter, reddit, github, etc).
