QGIS3 Tool edits ported to QGIS2 #26

This is the same as the QGIS3 changes only ported over to QGIS2, it wasn't terribly difficult and it seems to work for me. I didn't have the advantage of pyCharm for this so I basically looked for issues fixed them, run it, addressed the errors, rinse and repeat until the tool worked in QGIS2. image

Thanks for this PR! Unfortunately we are not maintaining the qgis2 branch, because QGIS2 is not maintained anymore.
