In this case GitHub's redirects would be fine, but the new url might be used here as soon as the move has happened.

Would it make sense to set the URL in an attribute so it can be updated more easily (i.e node.override in a wrapper cookbook)?

The install url should now be https://raw.github.com/Homebrew/homebrew/go/install, this said https://raw.github.com/mxcl/homebrew/go/install redirects to the new location
