allow the use of both tcp and udp, by defining udp + tcp in the protocol string (e.g. "udp,tcp" or any format that will match the if statement)

If you update the attribute in the readme to show and example of how you'd specify both tcp and udp I'll get this one merged. The concept is sound, but the documentation needs to be there so people know how to use it.
