  1. Switch to using ondrej's PHP 5.7
  2. Upgrade Ubuntu to at least 16.04 LTS

auth2 upgraded, after lots of poking everything seems to be working again, hurrah

now we just need to work out how to eventually migrate everything off here so we don't have to repeat in a few years!
