Notifications for preview versions #1301

I regularly visit the webpage to check for newer preview versions and since we get notifications for newer stabile versions, so why not add notifications for the previews as well?

Some software allows the user to be notified about beta versions (Paint.NET for example) if they opt in for them, usually in the settings, since the majority only wants the stabile versions.

I was thinking of something like this:

A new OptiFine preview version is available: 1.12.2 HD U D1 pre

But since the same preview gets updated several times, something like this could be displayed instead:

A new update for the installed OptiFine preview version is available: 1.12.2 HD U D1 pre

Would like to bump this since it's been over a year and I'd also like to see something like this. @sp614x

Don't worry, it's labelled todo. However, this would be a very nice feature!

Previews are posted in the discord #updates. You can get notifications from there.

it would be nice to notify for new preview versions, if the user is already using a preview, to prevent people from reporting bugs, which are already fixed in the newer previews.

Join the discord, right click "Optifine-updates", notification settings, and select "all messages". You can mute the other channels so you don't get notifications from them. Here's a link to the discord server if you need one: https://discord.gg/t2Fqrs9RjX

I know that. I just see people all the time reporting bugs for old previews, that are already fixed.

This won't work because the OptiFine server is too big. I'm pretty sure this doesn't work desktop either image

I'm not sure.. But it does say "mobile push notifications", and it works for me just fine

I have been using this method for awhile now and never received a ping one either platform. Maybe that's just me.
