[Installation] OptiFine Won't Work For Vanilla 1.4.7 #3637

Description of Issue

Hey there, I'm having trouble getting OptiFine to work for an older (1.4.7) version of MC. Now that there's a new launcher it's replaced the location of minecraft.jar with the versions folder and I've tried editing the 1.4.7 folder according to the Installion for 'Minecraft 1.6.2 and newer' but to no avail. Really the only thing I'm trying to do is play vanilla with Sphax 128x.

Minecraft launches just fine (I'm making certain to change the release to 1.4.7_OptiFine) but it acts as though no change has occured, the HD font doesn't load and the artifact issues persist as well as there being no additional settings which I know OptiFine has from using it in the past.

I've also tried using an (admittedly outdated) version of MCPatcher (which likely worked in 2013) in order to patch the 1.4.7 folder (making sure to use it on a clean version, I've got the original 1.4.7 folder backed up), following that I attempted to use the newest version of MCPatcher to no avail as it doesn't seem to be able to find the 1.4.7.jar file as it's now in versions and not just a minecraft.jar like it used to be.

I'm hoping this a very common issue with a solution I'm not seeing. Any help would be appreciated :)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install 1.4.7 using the new Minecraft Launcher
  2. Download OptiFine 1.4.6 (I tried both Ultra D5 and Ultra A2, not sure whether this matters or not) from the OptiFine history MinecraftForum.net post
  3. Install according to 'Minecraft 1.6.2 and newer' guideline given in the OptiFine HD post on MinecraftForum.net (I used this because the guide for older versions can't be followed with the new launcher and Minecraft directory)
  4. Attempt to use a >16x texturepack (I'm trying to use Sphax 128x)

OptiFine Version

OptiFine_1.4.6_HD_U_D5 OptiFine_1.4.6_HD_U_A2

Installation Method

I installed OptiFine manually according to the instructions outlined in the 'Minecraft 1.6.2 and newer' guideline given in the OptiFine HD post on MinecraftForum.net. Making certain to change the release to 1.4.7_OptiFine before launching.

Prior Testing

Does this happen in Vanilla without OptiFine? Yes, because OptiFine is needed for texturepacks >16x afaik

Additional Information

Occasionally when screwing around with different versions and using MCPatcher especially, my game would crash upon launch but simply deleting the options.txt file fixed this, OptiFine itself never caused this issue, however.

Where did you get Optifine from? It sucks how any and all pre-1.7 Optifine versions are no longer available to get from the official website, but before they were removed, I snagged (legally) a .zip version of Optifine for 1.4. If you didn't get an Optifine file, .zip or .jar, from an official source, that's the very first problem to look after.

Chase, you seem to have forgotten that theres a forum post thing for this. Also, supposedly 1.4.6 Jars work for 1.4.7. Might wanna look into it.
