4 years ago I had the same problem on 1.12.2. What I did is tried an older version, and check if any plugin is trying to change the skybox of the world. That sould solve it.

4 years ago I was wondering how you made The Midnight work with OptiFine or if you could guide me to a threat on how to solve the problem. Most people crash when they enter The Midnight dimension and I have the same problem. Thanks!

I never went to the midnight biome, and never had crashes from just having it installed.
