borgs can interact like they have hands #30522

  1. be borg
  2. deselect a module
  3. interact with anything that requires hands (hug people, activate APE, etc)
Radezolid commented 3 months ago

In my eyes it's a feature not a bug (I understand it is a bug tho but i like being able to hug as cyborg). They can also pet animals.

PursuitInAshes commented 3 months ago

Feels like this should be considered intended.

CookieMasterT commented 3 months ago

The same thing lets you use common left click interactions like turning on APE's and emitters or do stuff like alt+click to shake people awake, very much intended

lzk228 commented 3 months ago

borgs don't have hands, not intended

PursuitInAshes commented 3 months ago

Okay, but why are these features that we don't want borgs to have? Hugging is entirely harmless and I think a nice touch, being able to help science with APEs and engineering with emitters is genuinely helpful as there are engineering and science borgs. Narcolepsy is already sort of miserable (You know that going into playing with the trait), more players being able to wake you up is a good thing imo. All of these are positives imo.

Is there a reason we don't want borgs to have these features besides "We didn't expect them to have the features"?

lzk228 commented 3 months ago

borgs didn't have these features in first place, and these features weren't intended because the other interaction/hand rework caused them

PursuitInAshes commented 3 months ago

That does not address my question, why do we not want borgs to have these features outside of "We didn't expect them to have these features"?

Borgs being able to interact with devices, such as APEs and emitters is [likely] intended. Borgs already can get a module that enables them to interact with devices using a remote, so interacting with them without it makes sense.

If your argument is that "A borg without hands cannot interact with things that require hands" then your reasoning is flawed. You can interface with plenty of devices on a technical level.

APEs have an interface, therefore a borg should be able to use that interface - to give an example.

Using the hands argument, in my opinion, feels like an attempt to significantly nerf borgs. While I could understand the argument to remove hugging from borgs, to put together a borg you do in fact add arms to the chassis so canonically they have arms, and you can use arms to hug.

I don't know if this is an issue or not
